Wave 14 – „Transports of the Elderly“ 1 -3 to Theresienstadt, 06/02/1942 – 06/06/1942
Scope and content
Contains:
I) Correspondence and directories of the Stapoleitstelle Berlin to the Chief Finance President Berlin concerning the confiscation of assets of deported Jews, 06/06/1942.
The directories contain information on names, dates of birth and previous residences as well as a list of some of the confiscated valuables (Wave 14).
II) Transport lists pertaining to the so-called "Alterstransporte" I/1; I/2; I/3:
On June 2nd and 4th, 1942 (I/1; I/2) the majority of the residents of the retirement home in Grosse Hamburger Straße were deported to Theresienstadt. After the deportation the Stapoleitstelle used the building as a transit camp.
Contrary to its designation "3rd Alterstransport” (I/3; “Transports of the elderly"), on June 5th, 1942 Jews of different ages were deported.
The deportation stood in the context of several "retaliatory measures" following the arson attack by members of the resistance group around Herbert and Marianne Baum on an NS propaganda exhibition in Berlin's Lustgarten. As early as May 27th 1942, the Gestapo had arrested 404 Jewish men in Berlin, deported them to the Sachsenhausen camp and executed them. On June 5, 1942, relatives (women and children) of the arrested men were deported to Theresienstadt.
