Note: The exact departure date of the deportation train in Darmstadt has not been clearly determined. Today's historical research is based on the days around March 20, 1942. The deportation train traveled to Trawniki Station, from where the deportees had to walk to the Piaski Ghetto.
The last places of residence before the deportation were Darmstadt, Odenwald, Worms, Bingen, and Mainz. Mainz was considered a collection point for many of the victims from the surrounding cities, from where they were transported together to Darmstadt. According to the Yad Vashem Memorial, Jews from smaller towns near Darmstadt, such as Heppenheim (Bergstrasse), Dieburg, Bensheim, Höchst i. Odw., Ober-Ramstadt or Gernsheim, were brought directly - usually by truck - to Darmstadt. In Darmstadt, the Liebigschule (Lagerhausstraße), near the goods station, served as the main deportation collection point for the vast majority of Jews from the then province of Hesse-Nassau.
