Notes for understanding the list regarding marital status and gender-specific marking of surnames in Hungarian: If two names are listed under one number, the registered person is either a married woman (1) or a widowed woman (2).

1) If the survivor is a married woman, the full name of her husband is indicated directly above her first name and maiden name, with the suffix né added to his first name. This form of mentioning the husband's name (first name ending in né) serves exclusively to define the wife's civil status. Consequently, it cannot be inferred from this whether the husband concerned was also registered as a survivor in Szeged. Accordingly, the data to the right of the names (including date and place of birth, other relatives, occupation, last place of residence) refer only to the registered woman. If the husband was also listed as a survivor, information regarding his person is recorded separately on the list (first name without the suffix né) (example: no. 14 and no. 15 on the list).

2) If, in addition, the abbreviation "özv." is found before the husband's name (also here: first name with the suffix né), this means that the woman concerned is widowed (example: no. 3 on the list). In the metadata imported by the Arolsen Archives, this information is reflected in the attribute values "sex" and "marital status". The birth name of the woman mentioned on the documents is additionally listed under the attributes "first name" and "birth name". For this reason, some records contain two "first names": the woman's first name and her husband's first name ending in né.
