Registration and Care of DPs inside and outside of Camps

Scope and content

The holdings of this subgroup contain documents on the often first-time registration of former persecutees of the National Socialist regime or displaced persons within and outside Germany. In order to be able to provide as up-to-date information as possible about the current whereabouts of a displaced person at any time in response to a corresponding search query, the documents were continuously updated in the event of a change of location.

In later years, these holdings were frequented in particular for processing inquiries in connection with the Federal Compensation Act. Persons persecuted by the Nazi regime who resided in the Federal Republic of Germany or West Berlin until 31 January 1952 or had lived there until they emigrated were eligible to apply. The documents often made it possible to determine the exact whereabouts of a person at a given time.
