Scope and content

The archival unit consists of lists of deceased former persecutees, predominantly persons of Jewish descent. State institutions and aid organizations, particularly the World Jewish Congress and UNRRA search organizations, registered these fatalities, to allow a central search for their fate through the International Tracing Service or its predecessor organization. Registration occurred on site in various European localities and, if needed, worldwide by the end of the 1940s.
