Scope and content
This record group mainly contains files opened by the child tracing service of the ITS under IRO administration between 1947 and 1950 on children to be identified, and, sometimes, on children who went missing. Such files were opened for single children, i.e. for persons born as of 1927 – and in some cases also for more aged individuals. Occasionally, a joint file was kept for brother and sister, brother and brother, or sister and sister.
In some cases, complete children’s files were passed on to other states with notes on the pertinent transfer being kept in the record group concerned. The same applies to files the ITS took out for the case processing and has stored together with the case files for some time. The said files will be re-inserted by and by into the relevant record group as the digitization of the case files makes headway. And: beginning on this activity in 1950, the ITS added further correspondence and documents (e.g. DP2 cards) relating to the afore-named persons to the record group on a smaller scale.
