Correspondence, photographs, lists and testimonies, compiled in the run-up to the 1st and 2nd Flossenbürg Trial before the US Military Tribunal in Dachau 1946/47 (1942-1956)

Scope and content

This unit contains correspondence, photographs, lists and testimonies compiled in the run-up to the 1st and 2nd Flossenbürg Trials before the US Military Tribunal in Dachau in 1946/47.
Letters written by SS man Berthold Riegenhagen, who worked in CC Auschwitz and CC Flossenbürg, during his imprisonment in Nuremberg and Dachau in 1946 should be emphasized.

Contains:
I) Letter from the Führer of the 8th Company of the SS-T-Sturmbann in CC Auschwitz to the SS-T-Sturmbann concerning the psychological examination of the SS-Rottenführer Berthold Riegenhagen, 05/30/1942.

II) Letter from the Examining Magistrate at Weiden Regional Court to the International Tracing Service, concerning documents sent which pertain to CC Flossenbürg, 07/08/1956.

II) (Recognition) photographs, mainly of former SS personnel and Kapos in CC Flossenbürg. Some of the names on the back of the photographs contain small spelling mistakes.

- regarding the witnesses in the 2nd Flossenbürg trial.

V) Report of the Flossenbürg survivor Karl Josef Gautsch on the death march of CC Flossenbürg, written in the context of the trial against Bruno Skierka (SS-Untersturmführer); Testimony of Bruno Skierka in the prison Landsberg am Lech.

VI) Correspondence:
- Letter from W.H. Ott to Adolf Küfner, concerning an attempt to influence his testimony, Heidelberg, 06/25/1947.
- 4 handwritten letters from Berthold Riegenhagen (former SS-Rottenführer in CC Auschwitz and CC Flossenbürg) to Adolf Küfner, written in prison (e.g. in Dachau and Nuremberg), with a request for a mitigating statement, 2 sheets each, 03/26 - 12/12/1946.
- Handwritten copy of a letter from Hermann Riegenhagen and his wife Elsi(?) Riegenhagen to the US War Crime Trial management in Dachau, concerning the innocence of his brother Berthold Riegenhagen, Chicago, 10/31/1946.
- Handwritten letter from Bertold Riegenhagen to his brother Hermann Riegenhagen and Lieschen Edquist in the USA.
