Scope and content

Group 2.2 contains documentation concerning the registration and employment of forced labor during the war, as well related documentation from the post war period. The Group contains records concerning individuals of all the groups of forced workers, including "Zivilarbeiter" (civilian workers), "Militärinternierte" (Prisoners of War forced to work), "Ostarbeiter" (Eastern workers), as well as Jewish forced laborers. The Group excludes documentation concerning forced labor carried out in concentration camps, prisons and ghettos which can be found in Group 1.1 "Camps and Ghettos". It does contain documentation concerning "Zwangsarbeitlager" (forced labor camps) and forced labor carried out by concentration camp prisoners in "Arbeitskommandos" assigned to private firms.
